A White Halloween

Here's some sweet inspiration for a Halloween with a difference. I found this in Halloween issue of Sweet Paul Magazine? It’s was chock-full of wonderful crafty gems and delicious recipes. I’m loving his White Halloween concept. It makes the holiday a little less gory and a little more gorgeous! Happy Halloween!

Trick or Treat?

We don't really celebrate Halloween in Australia - it usually slips by unnoticed. Occasionally you may get the odd group of local kids, usually without costumes, looking for some sweets but no one is geared up for it so they are sent on their way empty handed ...how sad is that! I for one, love the whole concept of Halloween: the costumes, the candy, the parties, the neighbourly goodwill and the excitement of little kids on an adventure. All of it appeals to me .. any excuse for a party I say! So for those who are lucky enough to celebrate it in full swing have a treat for me!

Race Day

Untitled #65

 Race Day

These beautiful ink illustrations by Sydney based artist Rebecca Wetzler are pefect for leading up to the Melbourne Cup Races. Rebecca is another very talented illustrator to come out of Australia and find success in both American and Europe working with magazines such as Vogue. I first discovered her pretty illustrating style in a beauty book that I bought and I am now honoured to own one of her prints which sits proudly in my studio. In keeping with Rebecca's colour palette and sketchy style I have created some race day fashion outfits in the same theme.

Melbourne Cup Racewear

The Spring Racing Carnival is the big Melbourne fashion event of the year. It's all about chic, ladylike fashion - it's the one day of the year where you can wear a dress, gloves, matching bag and shoes and never feel overdressed. It's a fantastic day and a feast for the eyes with so much gorgeous fashion. There is a lot to do in the lead up to race week as everything has to be just perfect! There's shopping for a new outfit, manicures with polished nails, pedicures, spray on tans, silky hosiery, matching underwear, co-ordinated accessories, blow dries and make-up that lasts all day. Thankfully L'Oreal has a ladies tent that offers touch up make-up throughout the day to keep you looking fresh and dewy!

Cup Day Party

This is a little garden party I threw together for my girlfriends and their husbands to celebrate 'Melbourne Cup' last year. 'Melbourne Cup' is a famous horse race that everyone either goes to or gets together with friends and watches it on the big screen. It is typical to dress up with a hat and drink champagne and celebrate it in the style that is associated with this day of fashion and racing. My party had a mauve and pistachio theme with invitations, menus, race cards and party favours all in the same theme. It was a grazing menu - seven light courses served in between each of the eight races. There were sweeps, betting, quizzes and 'fashions on the field' to keep us entertained throughout the day. The sun shone, everyone lost and won some races and a fun day was had by all!

Spring Blossoms

I'm absolutely mad about flowers - I love flowers growing in the garden, I love fields of flowers in the Spring, I love blossom trees, I love cut flowers and floral prints so as you can see why I love Spring so much! Our garden is a mass of colour in the Spring so I love having parties out on the lawn as soon as the weather warms up a bit. I pile the table with fresh flowers, mini champagne bottles and lots of yummy treats for our guests. For a peak at last year's 'Melbourne Cup Party' pop by tomorrow.

Halloween Party

With Halloween only a week away I am thinking of getting together a group of my best friends and throwing a small but stylish Halloween soiree. Cocktail wear and champagne will be the order of the night. I always think getting dressed up in a bit of glitz and glamour always adds sparkle to an evening. I'll make up some canapes and serve them with up cocktails. I'll fill crystal bowls with black cats and black jelly beans just to add a touch of Halloween and my little black dress with a black velvet Venetian mask will make a perfect outfit!

Ladies Who Lunch

I am very excited because Frances from Beautiful Interiors and 18th Century Style is coming to Melbourne for the Races and a few days of shopping. Frances lives in Queensland and is a fellow Interior Designer. She  introduced me to blogging after I stumbled across her gorgeous blog - we share a passion for many of the same things. Less than a year later, we are meeting up on Friday for the first time to 'do lunch', some shopping and  I am keen to show her a few of the lovely design boutiques we have in Melbourne. Hopefully she'll leave full of inspiration and happy memories!
