Melbourne Cup is the race that stops a Nation. We have a public holiday in our state for this famous horse race and every other state has their TV's and radios tuned in. If you never go the races and you never bet, well this is the day that you do both. 120,000 people attend the Melbourne Cup and almost as many attend each of the other 3 race days that makes up the 'Spring Racing Carnival'. For the ladies it's all about the fashion and the champagne - every man wears a suit and tie and every lady wears a dress or a skirt with a hat or a fascinator. It is the biggest fashion event of the country and you will never see so many divine outfits in a single day as you do at the Melbourne Cup. There's 'Fashions on the Field' for the die hard fashionistas and there's the Marquis' with the sumptious lunches for those who like doing it in a bit of style!

Have many fond memories of celebrating this fab event with all my Auzzie girlfriends while living in Bangkok.
