Entertaining in Style

 

Tonight I am having friends for dinner so I have been flicking through Donna Hay magazines and all my cookbooks looking for inspiration. I have bought some beautiful lilies for the table and they are filling the house with the most beautiful perfume. I am loving this berry tart which always makes for a delicious summer dessert when served with dollop cream and french vanilla ice-cream. As for the rest of the meal - I'm still working on that ...better get my skates on!

With my birthday coming up next week ...

French Champagne and fancy cocktails

Brightly coloured balloons and party decorations

Flowers tied with coloured ribbons

Presents in beautiful gift wrap

Cupcakes and birthday cake

Now I just have to decide what to do!

It's the Oscars!

  

Well tonight is the night of nights for the film industry ... the Oscars!

But to be perfectly honest for me it's all about the stars and the dresses on the red carpet. I love all the glitz and glam and the stunning couture dresses. Having started off my career as a fashion designer - I love to see Couture gowns off the catwalk and on real people. I love the fabrics, the feathers, the ruffles, the trains and the sequins. Fashion doesn't get much better (and in some cases much worse) than on the red carpet at the Oscars. So pour yourself a glass of champagne, sit back and relax and enjoy the show in a bit of style!

In Love with Aqua

I just adore aqua - I am sure it's partly because of those little Tiffany boxes that have brought so much joy to so many special occasions but I also love the pop and energy it brings when used in a decorating scheme. It can look sophisticated and elegant but also relaxed and casual when dressed down for a beach house. Apart from pink, it's my favourite summer wardrobe colour. Living by beach, I find aqua is the perfect shade for chic coastal dressing!

Blushing Pink & Peach

 

I fell in love with the latest collection from Katie Ermilio (images 1, 2 and 9) a fashion designer hailing from New York City. As the granddaughter of Grace Kelly's personal clothier, it is easy to see the sense of history in her clothes. The collection is soft, pretty, feminine and full of clever twists. It is also fresh, modern and beautifully constructed. I love the sorbet colours and would wear any of her pieces. I am sure Grace would approve of this stunning collection. A Touch of Class

I love these elegant sophisticated interiors with their gilded mirrors, crystal chandeliers and antique furniture. I love high ceilings and detailed plasterwork that reminds me of wedding cakes. I bought my first apartment soon after I turned thirty. It dated back to 1910 with stunningly detailed ceilings, polished boards, an old fireplace and handmade glass in the windows - it reminded me of apartments I had stayed at in Paris so I just had to have it! After a simple renovation, I filled it with French antiques bought from the auction houses including a heavenly chandelier from Paris. The look was completed with beige velvet sofas, long stemmed roses in silver champagne buckets and black and white photos of Bridgette Bardot in antique gilded frames. I miss that beautiful apartment!
