Rebecca Wetzler - Fashion Illustrator

I love the romantic flourishes and splashes of spontaneous colour
in the talented work of illustrator Rebecca Wetzler.

I just recently bought a gorgeous fashion illustration of hers
to hang in my design studio.
All of that colour gives the room a real lift.

Spring Racing Carnival Begins!

Spring Racing Carnival is a very glamorous time for Melbournians.
It's the time of the year when men don their finest suits
and ladies frock up in stylish dresses, chic hats and elegant heels.
The days is all about ladylike glamour, champagne, a flutter on the races
and it's the biggest fashion day of our social calendar.
Here is Michel Canetti's {one of my favourite illustrator's}
take on the day.

Michel Canetti - Fashion Illustrator

The walls of my favourite French cafe are adorned with the illustrations of French Artist, Michel Canetti. I sit there sipping my Café au lait and nibbling on my croissant, dreaming I am in Paris! These elegant and stylish illustrations remind me of the chic women I so admire walking the streets of Paris. Michel now works and resides in Melbourne so maybe one day I will bump into him at Laurent's having a coffee!

Pen & Ink

Here are few illustrations from one of my favourite fashion illustrators Christian David Moore. I took life drawing and fashion illustration classes when I was studying for my fashion degree and the frustrating thing about it is that it looks so much easier than it really is. The good ones make it look so effortless - a line here, a brushstroke there and 'voila', a fabulous drawing! But I can promise you to be this good is not just lots of practice it's a rare talent and great gift that only a few possess!

Michel Canetti in Colour

I have loved fashion illustration ever since I studied Fashion Design after finishing school. French fashion illustrator, Michel Canetti, is one of my favourites. Born in Paris in 1955, he now lives in my hometown of Melbourne so it is really inspiring to see his work around local French cafes and restaurants. Michel is considered one of France's leading fashion illustrators and has worked with some of the world's famous fashion houses and magazines. Here are some examples some of his more colourful illustrations. As you can see his love of French chic, glamorous fashion and feminine beauty reflects in his work.

Race Day

Untitled #65

 Race Day

These beautiful ink illustrations by Sydney based artist Rebecca Wetzler are pefect for leading up to the Melbourne Cup Races. Rebecca is another very talented illustrator to come out of Australia and find success in both American and Europe working with magazines such as Vogue. I first discovered her pretty illustrating style in a beauty book that I bought and I am now honoured to own one of her prints which sits proudly in my studio. In keeping with Rebecca's colour palette and sketchy style I have created some race day fashion outfits in the same theme.

Fashion Illustration With Flair

When I finished secondary school I knew exactly what I wanted to do and went straight to Art School ending up with a degree in Fashion Design. One of our classes was Fashion Illustration - it all looks so incredibly simple and effortless, a line here, a brushstroke there but it's not until you put pen to paper that you realise how incredibly difficult it really is. I therefore have amazing admiration and respect for illustrators. I can count my favourites on one hand - so to be talented in this field is no easy task. Christian David Moore hails from London and is on my list. He's also on the list of Chanel, Vogue, YSL, Conde Naste and Elle Magazine - a pretty impressive client list I say! His work speaks for itself!
